It is with some sadness that we are announcing today that we have taken the decision to cease operations at Oileán Éadaigh West Mayo Brewery entirely later this year, after 6 years of producing craft beers.
There are no major issues or problems that have led to our decision, more that we both have a number of other commitments and ambitions to pursue and it was therefore no longer possible to give the proper time needed to the brewery business. So though the business was still successful, we decided to close it and quit whilst we were ahead, and being a small enterprise on the family farm, we decided to close rather than hand the business over to others.
Some brewery merchandise is still available – Hoodies. T-Shirts, Steins and Glasses – and can be obtained at sales prices if anyone would like any in the coming months. Again, please contact using the usual phone number or via email. Also, we will be removing our social media presence in a couple of weeks.
Running your own business of course has many challenges, but running the microbrewery for the last 6 years has been a very rewarding experience and especially in terms of working with our customers, and supplying our product to craft beer enthusiasts and indeed anyone that just likes a nice beer and a bit more choice!
So as we say, some sadness, but it is the right time for us to move on and we take a great deal of pride in our achievements to date – in the quality and variety of different beers our small brewery has produced and in making the McKennas’ Best in Ireland guide for the last 5 years running!
Finally, and most importantly, a big thank you to everyone for your custom and support over the years – it is very much appreciated and we hope you continue to enjoy good craft beers and continue to support good local businesses!
